Is it wrong in your eyes to eat the eggs of chickens you keep?

I work at a local permaculture farm and we have about 13 chickens and no roosters living on the farm. The chickens are free to wander and are not fenced in. We put them inside when it gets dark to protect them from predators but other than that they are part of our gardens ecosystem. They eat the caterpillars that eat our tomato plants, they nest in the hay bales we use in our gardens (we often plant in beds of compost and hay), they live almost like they would in the wild. Chickens by nature lay eggs, so we find them in little nests they make. Since there are no roosters we know the eggs are unfertilized. I'd be curious of your opinion as to wether or not eating these eggs is immoral. We don't sell the eggs, we don't have the chickens living there for the sole purpose of laying eggs, the workers just take some eggs home from time to time.

Edit: the chickens are also free to leave if they'd like. Every once and a while a chicken disappears for a night, tho they tend to come back the next morning. Sometimes they don't. These chickens are free to do as they please
