Need help upgrading older gaming pc.

I am looking to upgrade my GPU, CPU, and motherboard if required.
I currently have:
~GPU- GTX 550ti ~CPU- AMD Phenom II X4 960t ~MOBO- Gigabyte GA-970a-UD3 with 8gb ram.

I purchased it used from a friend.

I have been considering a GTX 1060 6gb for the GPU and need help picking a compatible CPU, and motherboard if needed. I will also need a new power supply I'm sure.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Apologies if my formatting sucks, I am new to this sub.
