Chromebook and better monitor for desktop, or acer aspire?

I have a beast of a desktop, with a 1080p, 60fps, cheapo monitor, and no laptop. My monitor is my desktops biggest bottleneck by far. I'm gonna start college, but I'm not moving, I'm only 20-30 mins away. Should I buy a chromebook and use the saved $300-ish dollars to buy a better monitor that I already want, or should I get an Aspire, and start the monitor cash pile from $0? I have basic classes this semester, and I will major biology.
