Why is Corki seeing so many bans in pro games at the moment?

Seeing as that I dont recall him being a priority pick in the last months, I really wonder why he is being banned in so many games. Today alone I saw TSM vs C9, and S04 vs MM, 4 games in which Corki was banned in 2 of them.

Is he a hidden counter vs meta mids? Is he substantially better in a team rather than soloqueue? Is he just banned because of how cool he is?

The TSM game is from less than two months ago btw, to avoid any confusion. Still, thats quite recent given how few changes Corki has recieved.
