So I just spent an hour talking to my therapist about things (outlined inside) that I find to be irrelevant to me and my mental health. Time to find a new therapist?
I've never done therapy before, but I feel like every week he has no idea what we talked about the previous week. I've wasted several weekly sessions talking about irrelevant things with him because.. I dunno, I'm bad at saying "Hey, I don't care about that. Let's talk about this instead." or I thought it was somehow going to be relevant to me.
So here is what we talked about today; his financial investments, the state of the American education and health systems, the comparisons between the costs of these systems in the late 70's vs now, his son's education and financial investments, and the state of the American political system.
While these things may be fun to talk about, I do not see them as being important to my mental health (which, by the way, really isn't that great).
So I guess I'm looking for some justification or thoughts from people who have had experience with therapy before. Time to find a new one? Do I just e-mail my current one and say that I'm done?
