Long car ride, worried about over-stressing my chins

In about a month I will be taking my chinchillas to my house at uni, which is roughly a 5 hour drive in the middle of the day. They will have air conditioning and water and food in a nice carrier I bought for them but I'm worried about how much this transition will stress them out. I also plan on bringing them back over winter break and the following summer (so every 6 months). Is this practical or will I need to find a more appropriate long term solution? Has anyone else had experience transporting chins and can offer any tips?
