Vive or Ultrawide Monitor?

I am in the market for a new monitor. Currently All my gaming/PC-ing is done on a old 32" LG LED TV. Since about 2010... and after doing a bench marking website thing just for yuks, I discovered it has like a 150ms response time that i have over the years been blaming on my terrible internet. I am saving my pennies, so I am asking you vive owners (preferably those who also own a 1440p UW) If your options were between a Vive and shitty TV, or new ultra wide. Which would you choose?

I am leaning towards the vive, because I want one oh so badly. But want to know if you can game normally on it? If I wanted to play BF1 and Rocket league, could I do it using the vive just like it was any other head mounted video goggles, meaning its not a virtual desktop but just a screen on my face.

Any help would be great.

And not sure if its relevant, But motion sickness isn't an issue with me with HMDs. I fly Racing drones with Dominator V3 video goggles.

Edit: Thanks for the awesome replies to everyone who responded. The two games i play are rocket league and Arma 3. I just bought battlefield 1 and its Meh to me since Im an Arma fan. I just used it as an example since its far more known.

The game I am most excited for is Onward if I got a Vr headset, and where I would spend my hours.

I definitely will look into the rift since it was recommended. I don't like Oculus mostly do to it being owned by Facebook and all their shitty business practices I want no apart of. Not because I don't like the RIft as headset option.
