Hand Sewing Beginner

Hey r/sewing! This my first reddit post ever so I apologize in advance if I violate any unspoken rules or somehow break reddit. Anyway, I'm essentially a noob when it comes to sewing and have become fascinated with the concept of hand sewing. Yes, I understand it takes much longer than a machine but I honestly don't mind. I wanted to pick up a hobby that encourages me to embrace mindfulness and to slow things down in life all while creating something (like crocheting or knitting or embroidery). I have nothing against machines it's just:

  1. I'm too lazy to set up, maintain and take care of the machine (if I'm to be completely honest here)
  2. I want the hobby to be portable
  3. I'm in a situation where I am in between places and I'm not exactly going to carry a machine everywhere I go
  4. I am broke. So broke that my wallet needs a cast

With that being said, I want to know if you have any suggestions/subreddits/books/resources for good quality, beginner hand sewing/alterations.

I also want to know if I should start with hand alterations first or hand sewing projects (based on which one is more beginner friendly).

Thanks in advance :)
