Does reaching gold tier in weekend champions league (18 wins) automatically qualify you for the next weekend champion league?

Seems to have happened to me. I haven't won a daily knockout this week, but I'm qualified for weekend league. I don't think I was qualified as of yesterday, but after rewards came out today I seem to have qualified.

Does anyone know the criteria for this?
