Persistent cough?

So about a week ago I smoked for the first time ever. As in, I've never smoked anything in my life except for this last time. Starting the day after, and for the past week, I've had a persistent dry cough - the kind where there's a tickle in the back of your throat, but it doesn't really hurt. It's more uncomfortable than painful.

Is this common or is it probably unrelated?
