Merge single-tab window into other window

Every once in a while I'll manage to trigger some action while on a single-tab window that causes it to merge with another window (which, in my case, has multiple tabs). I don't know what causes this, but I'd like to as it would be quite handy in certain situations. Anyone have any idea how to trigger this behavior?
