[Q] How do I stop over-worrying about what others in my life may think of me and live confidently for myself?
I've always been a people-pleaser, and I have always concerned myself with what others think of me. I'm glad that I'm a kind and considerate of other people's feelings, but I would like to become more confident in the decisions I make. I want to live my life for myself.
I have been in a wonderful relationship for 4 years. My SO and I are great for each other and we live a balanced life together, but for some reason I get preoccupied with what he is thinking... I recently got promoted and though he is happy for me, I worry about what he thinks of me working more. Our schedules don't align that great... I get home when he's getting ready for bed like 4 days out of the week. He hasn't said he minds this and he even encourages me. I also worry about if he thinks I'm being unfaithful. His ex cheated on him, and whenever I'm out with friends or family I worry that he'll assume I'm cheating. It's stupid. I've never so much as texted another guy inappropriately while we've been together. I have no intention of ever being unfaithful. But for some reason I constantly worry that he will think I am. I should point out that he's never accused me of this. Why do I do this to myself??
I also worry about what people at work who report to me think of me and if they really respect me.
I know it's good to care about what others think on some level, but I feel like I spend too much time worrying when I could be enjoying my relatively good life!
If this is the wrong sub to post this in, feel free to redirect me. I picked this sub because I have generally low self-confidence and am a worry wart, and those are two things I want to fix.
Thanks for reading, and thank you for any advice you may have.
