Gameboy color games won't work and then they will

Just like my title. I uncovered my old gameboy systems and some games earlier this week and some of my gbc carts won't (or wouldn't) work in either of my gbcs. after a few attempts in my gameboy advance they start working and a few will even start in my gbc after doing this. What dose this mean? I'm going to let the carts sit for a day and try again to see if they still work tomorrow. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've tried searching but I have not found a single thread or forum mentioning this or a remedy for it.
