Solo'd Several Machamp Raids with this team--Info inside
At the bottom you'll find links to the team used.
Since the release of raids and seeing all of the posts about people soloing Machamp, I have made it my personal mission to be able to solo the Beast of the Attacking Meta. I built this team up from when I was level 25, at the start of the latest update, until now, where I'm sitting at level 30, almost 31. I got lucky with one nest rotation with a huge Abra nest, so I managed a high IV Alakazam, but he took me about 7 Charge TMs to finally get Future Sight on him. I've completed two Close Combat raids (One with heavy slam) and two Dynamic Punch raids (Both with counter) with this team.
My team is:
-
Alakazam Psycho Cut/Future Sight (2106 [14 atk])
-
Espeon Confusion/Future Sight (2388 [15 atk])
-
2 Espeon Zen Headbutt/Future Sight (2372 [10 atk]/2280 [14 atk])
-
Dragonite Dragon Tail/Hurricane (3081 [15 atk])
-
Lugia Extrasensory/Future Sight (2904)
OR
- Gengar Shadow Claw/Sludge Bomb (2094)
I spent a ton of stardust leveling up the Gengar because she has legacy Shadow Claw, I leveled up Lugia so much because I got too hyphy during the legendary event and just blew all my rare candy on it, and I leveled up my Dragonite to max (31) because she's my favorite since Red/Blue.
You honestly don't need to level up the ones I've chosen, except maybe the Dragonite because she has VERY good TDO if you dodge correctly. I usually default to Lugia as an anchor because if there's a lot of time left, it can deal a more TDO than Gengar, but if my first run fails on time, I'll switch to Gengar because it still tanks really well, is easy to dodge with, and deals very respectable damage.
The biggest challenge to this is making sure you get at least 4-5 Charge Move dodges with the Alakazam/Espeons in total, it doesn't matter which ones specifically. You'll want to dodge as many charge moves as possible with your Dragonite (3-4 is my average) so that you can get as many of your own charge moves off. By the time you get to your anchor, if it's Lugia, don't worry about dodging, but if you're using Gengar, you'll need to dodge as much as you can, just like Dragonite. Thankfully, Machamp has a pretty large "tell" on his charge moves, so after a few battles with him, you should find it easier. I choose Psycho Cut and Zen Headbutt over Confusion on my Psychic types because I find them much easier to dodge with.
So far I've built an army of 5 Machamp (I fought one duo with a Discord friend) I can finally use for gym attacking, and this has been a satisfying opportunity to slow the game back down after the breakneck race for Legendaries.
Overall, it's a tough ask, but it's definitely possible with the right 'mon. I'd even speculate that this could be done with nothing rarer than an Alakazam. If you had a team of 6 Alakazam and Espeon of sufficiently high level, this could be done with perfect dodging. Espeon will definitely fair better against DP Machamp because of their health pool, but Alakazam can deal respectable TDO as well, squeezing in about 2 FS to chunk Machamp. The ideal team would still have an anchor, but instead of Lugia or Gengar, I would suggest Dragonite with Hurricane. I see it dealing about 30-40% of Machamp's health each raid, so if you can get 60-70% with 5 Psychic type, you're definitely within closing distance of solo attempts.
