Giving feedback to brewers you don't know very well.
I know this might not be related to what this sub is generally about, but I only want to ask this question to professionals. Being someone who's trying to work my way up in the industry (currently an assistant brewer on a 7 barrel brewhouse), I tend to be very careful how I critique other brewers (I don't want to be "that" guy). For the most part, I stay fairly silent unless people are directly probing me, or maybe if a beer is producing a very, very noticeable off flavor. But there are some moments where I walk into a place and have some concerns, and I geniunely want to voice them for the sake of helping them improve their product.
Like, for instance, a newer brewery in my area tried to do an NEIPA, and they really fucked it up. It was way too malt forward with high caramel notes, peppery, barely hazy, thinner mouthfeel and too bitter. Basically it was an under-carbonated Double IPA with accented tropical notes. We've been experimenting with the style (as everyone has) and I thought I'd let them know what we did to solve some of the problems we've faced. I don't really know the dudes running it, so I was worried about coming acroos as the dude trying to stroke his own ego, so I chose to not say anything.
So, to those of you who are lower level like me, do you say anything? If it's the latter, how do you go about it? And to those of you who operate a brewery, what is your opinion about people like me voicing their opinion?
