[Help] What is your writing process like?

I'm a beginner. Never written a poem (other than maybe for school a long time ago) but I have been reading poetry a lot recently. Frank O'Hara mostly got me into it I would say. I've also been reading lots of people's poems over at OC Poetry. Great sub! Anyway, I was wondering what the individual writing processes are like for you all in hopes of getting a start at writing my own poems. I have a journal and pencil by my bed and will occasionally write a sentence or two if it comes to mind, but I don't really seem to be going anywhere with it. What do you do to write a poem and do you have any tips for a beginner? Maybe excersises to try? Thanks to everyone who responds!
