Help end this debate!
My friends and I have debated this for over a decade -- and it's time to settle it once and for all.
The question:
Is someone who has neither bowled or golfed before more likely to bowl a 300 or break par first?
The fine print
Assume a person is fresh to both sports. They can practice, seek instruction, or play as many rounds/games as they'd like. What matters is time spent playing/practicing. Some lanes are easier than others, just as some courses are easier than others. Assume the easiest lane = the easiest course and vice versa.
Some additional thoughts
A 60% chance to bowl a strike gives a 1/500 chance to bowl a 300 ignoring lane variances and emotion/pressure. A 50% chance to bowl a strike increase that to a 1/5000 chance. If we assume a 30 minute game of bowling and a 3 hour round of golf we get 83 and 833 rounds of golf, respectively.
Again, we have debated this for years and years, have talked to many guys who have broke par and bowled a 300. We are just as undecided as ever.
I will be x-posting to r/golf.
