Returning Student Looking for Philadelphia-Area Specific Advice

Hi All!

I'm a nursing student working on pre-requisites at a community college before going into an accelerated second bachelors BSN program.

I did my first bachelors at Temple and am dying to return to the Philadelphia area. I'm working on solidifying my list of BSN schools with second bachelors programs I'm applying to. I have two questions:

  1. How much does the prestige of school (i.e. name recognition) matter when applying for jobs with a BSN?

  2. Does it matter if your BSN comes from a religious school? I'm from California where there aren't many religious universities, but in the Philly Area a ton of religious schools have accelerated BSN programs. Will some hospitals shy away from hiring nurses with degrees from religious schools?

Currently I'm planning on applying to UPenn (dare to dream!), Drexel, Gwynedd Mercy, Eastern, and Holy Family. I may also apply to Thomas Jefferson if I end up taking another chemistry course. Any schools I should scratch off that list? Any schools to add?

TIA!
