Natural Selection
I was on my knees. My middle fingers were touching tip to tip behind my head. I said, “Get it over with already.”
The assassin immediately wore a look of disappointment. I looked down the barrel of his gun. He asked me, “Why are you not afraid? If you are a human being you should be afraid right now. Why are you not crying, begging, pleading or fighting me right now?”
He scoffed in my face and lowered his weapon to his side. He asked me for the second time, “Why are you not afraid?”
Again he pointed the gun at me as he began his evil sermon. His face displayed the signs of an epiphany. “Ha! This is natural selection. There is no man in you. There is no 'Try.' There is only a weak lamb here before me. This is why dudes like you die and dudes like me live. You're nothing like they said you would be.”
He dropped his arm and the gun rested in his hand. He laughed at me as if I were a child.
I grabbed his wrist with my left hand. I removed the gun from his hand with my right hand. I aimed the weapon toward my "killer".
As he backed up with his hands in the air I responded, “I was afraid. You weren't.”
I squeezed the trigger.
