My first time: hot mess

Got my DE starter kit last week, figured it was time to finally use it. I wasn't in a rush to go anywhere, so it'd be a relaxing shave.

First pass, I'm feeling nothing as I make my strokes with the grain. I'm wondering WTF is going on, so I bust out the cartridge razor. Bad move. It nicked me up a fair bit, probably because I was applying more pressure to make sure things got cut after getting nowhere.

Then I thought, maybe the comb piece is on backward. I reversed it, and what do you know, it starts cutting. I'm a dumbass. I still feel like I had a poor grip, so the results were suboptimal.

I'm hoping get the hang of it before I destroy my face and neck. I started with the neck, like I usually do (I know, I know), which was my first mistake. Anyone else have bad first shave stories?
