Trying to find the name of an anime film, please help!

I can't remember the name of this film for the life of me. I had it on DVD when I was younger (therefore it was released pre2002). I can only remember one scene and the DVD's disc artwork. (I realise this is not much to go on.) The one scene I remember was of a woman (magical person and also main love interest?) burning because of sunlight- The main character (male and human/mortal) was trying to desperately cover her up with his body- he might have accidentally missed an ankle at one point? I think it was a sad scene because they couldn't be together, maybe? They were under a cherry blossom tree and it was quite pretty. The disc artwork was a picture of the film's cast standing all along the bottom half, with the main character (male) standing in front in the middle. He was surrounded by a mixture of fantasy creatures, various gods/goddesses, I'm pretty sure there was a dragon??? It might have been one of those long paper dragons that people get inside?? It was night-time (the top half of the DVD was dark blue) and there were lanturn string lights. If my horrendous description is ringing any bells, please reply. I'm going a little mental trying to prove this film actually exists and isn't a figment of my imagination...
