Thoughts about casting

I remember reading on this sub once that part of the auditioning/ casting process involves a life-interview type of thing where they ask all about the queen's lives (which is where they get all these specific questions during the season and basically interject their personal problems into their "storylines"). Do you think that the producers value the possibility of creating a dramatic storyline more over the quality of drag/ what the queen can bring to the table? It seems to me that either A) every drag queen in the universe has suffered a lot in their life or b) the producers make sure to cast people who are "Emmy gold".

Could this explain why people who don't have the ability to fit this description don't usually make it that far into the competition? Kelly Mantle would be an example of this. (She said in an interview that she didn't know what to tell Vivacious when she talked about a traumatic part of her life because Kelly had a very "good" life with supportive family, etc.)
