Epoxy and Water Safety?

Hey Ceramics!

Long story short, we used a ceramic bowl as a water bowl for neighborhood dogs. I broke said bowl and took it to a local pottery store (where it was made) and they repaired it using an epoxy. For all I know it may not be water tight as is, but the folks at the store said the epoxy would make the water unsafe for consumption.

Is there any way to use a glaze or clear coat to fix this?
