Lateral moves.

I am a "financial service rep" on a retail side. I am somewhat successful in that role. I have been applying for a credit analyst position for quite some time now, with no results.

I was offered to think about a "commercial sales assistant" job, which is technically below my current paygrade, but supposedly exposes me to commercial banking. It's obviously not what I'm looking for, but would it make sense to get away from retail as far as possible given the chance? And then maybe shoot for CA? I'm just afraid it will add unnecessary year(s) to doing something irrelevant.

What are my better options?
