Helping my dad choose a phone?

My dad has never had a smartphone and has been perfectly happy with a small Nokia for the pat fifteen years but we've gradually convinced him to consider a smartphone?

What easy to use smartphone would you recommend keep in mind it should have a large screen and be relativity cheap?
