Is Jon and Daenerys the Beren and Luthien of this story?

I recently bought the new illustrated book by Christopher Tolkien of the tale of Beren and Luthien and currently reading it, but already read their story several times. It struck me that there are similarities, not overly similar but it is there. How do you think it would be similar and where would they go with it? In the same direction. I'm in a 'deep in heavy theory reading' tonight haha!
