Slow Bartenders, Lying Coworkers, and Write Ups
It's me again. So far, things are going well. I've moved into being a full time server, even working on the busy weekend nights instead of the lunch shifts, so I'm feeling a lot more confident on that front.
We recently promoted 2 of our best servers to manager, which I was pretty thrilled about. These ladies are awesome, take no shit people that really know how to make sure things run smoothly and make sure that we are all doing our best.
Now, onto the point.
So, we have a couple of bartenders that are terrible. They ignore, or can't keep up with tickets. Even if I have multiples of the same mixed drink for the same ticket, they still make the drinks one at a time. The spend more time on their phones or talking to their significant other that has shown up than doing their job, so on nights when it isn't busy, I'll have somebody waiting 10-15 minutes for a draft beer. It's ridiculous, but if you bring it up to them, they get angry and huffy and wait times get worse.
I tried to bring it up to a manager one night when I was closing out. We tip out the bar 5% of our total alcohol sales, and this bartender was the bane of my existence during the shift. My tips had suffered, my customers suffered, and it was just a clusterfuck all the way around. So, I asked her what were the potential ramifications if I did not want to tip him out, since my understanding upon being hired was that a tip out was voluntary, not mandatory. (This may have been wrong on my part, but I remember when I was a busser, we had some terrible new hires and lots of times, people would refuse to tip out, so I was always grateful for mine, since bussers there make hourly)
So anyway, my manager told me that it would most likely end up in a write up for insubordination from our new general manager who is the head chef's girlfriend. Apparently, refusing to tip out is "insubordination". So, I ended up paying my tip out and at this point, I was too worried to leave a complaint. Right now, I need this job. Is there anything to do here, I'm not the only one that has complained, but I'm really scared about being written up, I don't handle it well, I struggle with anxiety anyway.
The other thing is, at the end of the night, we do our cash out, right? So we list our net sales, subtract any merchandise sold, and multiply the remaining sales by 2% to tip out the bussers.
Alcohol sales are then tallied and 5% of that number is given to the bar, any other money, I take home.
Apparently, one of my coworkers got caught faking her numbers, so now we all have to wait to be double checked by a manager to leave. She was leaving out her guest tap sales, so her bar tip out was less, or saying she sold more merch than she did to lower her busser tip out.
She was screwing her coworkers and now everyone is suffering because the manager is now treating us all like criminals. What's weird though, is that they didn't even fire the person who was stealing! I mean, that doesn't even make sense.
I'm not sure what's going on here. I love most of the people I work with, but something really doesn't feel right, and things have mostly gone downhill since this new manager took over. More call outs, people wanting to leave early, sidework not being done, being required to get 'training' or we aren't going to be scheduled when that isn't an NC requirement or a new hire requirement, just something she came up with.
Ugh...should I look somewhere else? I really don't want to....
