Wire only option for depositing USD?

It is hard to believe, but apparently a wire transfer is the only way to move USD from a US resident's US-based bank into Kraken. Is that correct? My bank charges $30 for a domestic wire, so am not keen on this option. I used to be with Coinbase and (if I remember correctly) had no problems depositing money with a debit/credit card (which was free for me, aside from their own fees).

Do people know a more cost-effective work around? If I have to pay $30 for every deposit (plus Kraken's own fee), I might find another exchange.
