Alignment, Bounty, Notoriety systems

Alignment: Your alignment to other players in the world. There are 4 possibilities. Neutral, friendly, enemy and temporary enemy.

When you attack someone or steal items off a sleeper or attack any item/building owned by the player, you become temporary enemy alignment towards them.

This allows you to defend yourself and your property without losing alignment or gaining notoriety.

When you kill too many friendly/neutral players, you gain notoriety. Too much notoriety and then are now an enemy to all players and a bounty is placed on your head. This reveals your general location via map. ( with a radius that is not 100% accurate for obvious reasons )

Killing players who currently have a bounty on their head will lower your notoriety level and raise your good alignment.

You can see someone's alignment to you via their name when you look at them. It will be colored appropriately. ( grey/white is neutral, red is enemy, blue is friendly, green is steam/authorized friend )

This allows players to build relationships and names for themselves.

If you want to remain "friendly or neutral" you don't attack first. You don't kill first, you defend yourself. You kill red/bounty players.

This makes encounters with players more dynamic. If you gain notoriety you run the risk of being bounty level and your location broadcasted on map.

People will want to kill you to raise their alignment and take your loot.

If you achieve bounty status you do gain a slight benefit however. You gain people who want to protect you and get the loot off of your attackers.

Want to be known as a good player who is trustworthy to team with? Trader? Bounty hunter? These systems allow this now.

Want to be known for being the best pvper? The best raider? Want to attract bounty hunters and lure them into traps and get their loot and gain even more notoriety? These systems allow this now.

( I'm also toying with the idea of tying player skulls and or the crushing of said skulls into one or more of these sysyems. adding value to skulls as a currency or sorts but it might be too exploitable. )

Edit: spelling

Edit: downing a neutral/friendly player adds notoriety / lowers alignment. taking even a single item off of a downed player adds notoriety / lowers alignment. If the player you downed dies or you kill them fully you lose more alignment and gain more notoriety.

( making people drop you items or reviving them once you have seen what they have and then asking them to drop certain items will help you be just a robber and not a murderer meaning you do not lose as much alignment and gain as much notoriety as you would murdering them and stealing items. )
