Switching from macos/Logic Pro to windows 10/Cubase
I went from an Amiga/MIDI/8Trk setup to Win2k in the early 2000's, and the experience was one of MIDI latency, crashes and bluescreens. I switched to OSX/Logic in 2004, and never looked back.
Until now.
My old, but maxed out iMac 27" broke, and I'm unwilling to get a used one again, and also unwilling to hand over €4300 to Apple for a comparable new machine.
So I bought components for a Windows machine, and they were delivered today. I will assemble the PC over the weekend. I bought Win 10 and Cubase 9 Elements (intending to upgrade to Pro if I can adjust my workflow to it). I own a UAD Apollo Quad with Thunderbolt as an interface, and bought a TB capable mainboard + USBC->TB adapter according to the recommendations by UAD.
The question that I have is -- what has changed in Windows MIDI/Audio production since the early 2000's? Will I still encounter latency and numerous crashes? Or has the situation improved considerably over those 13+ years? Anything else that I should know before I set everything up tomorrow?
