Autism is highly exaggerated and over-diagnosed.
It seems everyone is autistic nowadays, not in literal terms but I suppose you know what I'm getting at. Back in say, the 1950's, if someone was a little socially awkward, then he was just...socially awkward, maybe people will call him a 'nerd'.
Nowadays, if you feel awkward on the phone or a bit shy, perhaps from being bullied when younger, then they're autistic, give up now. He has unconventional views and has weird hobbies?! He doesn't care about being a sheep? AUTISM!
What's more is I'm tired of seeing 'autistic' people make it their entire identity. They will introduce themselves as it within a few words of their sentence. I have multiple things wrong with me - dyslexia, heart problems, neuralgia, BPD and PTSD but I don't go ''hey, my name is [myname], I am a 23 year old dyslexic, heart problem sufferer, PTSD, BPD and neuralgia sufferer!'' The parents of these people are also cringy in that they view their child as some sort of trophy because of their condition and then try to exploit them. They act like their child is a fucking non-conscious zoo animal.
It seems in this day and age, people just love to label themselves and make that their core identity (made up genders and sexualities, for example!) while not making any attempts to develop their personality, like they're a character who just relies on one trope, that's it. I'm more interested in interesting people. Then there's the people who commit crimes and then get out of jail free for claiming they have autism, 'hey I'm a bit socially awkward, you can't take me to jail'!
Meanwhile if I were to get falsely accused and sent to jail they'd think nothing of me despite one of my conditions being deadly if not treated correctly.
