Anyone use the Autohotspot script? Does it function on the stretch release as it should?

Autohotspot is a script that scans for APs in wpa_supplicant, if it detects one, it connects, if not it sets up an AP so you can still connect to the pi, presumably to add AP details. The script also will move to a known AP and shut down its own hotspot if it comes within range using a cronjob.

I only discovered it yesterday and tried it on a zero w with a fresh image of the latest stretch release. It seems to set up a hotspot well but within range of a known AP it won't switch and connect. Seemingly on boot it will connect to an AP but immediately disconnect and set up its own access point. Manually running the script will show it detecting the AP but timing out connecting to it. I'm not sure if this is a Stretch issue or something else as the script was made for Jessie. Any ideas?
