Okay, is the part where the floor is invisible and I have to ink my way forward to avoid falling off a Bug or a Game Mechanic?

Pretty much the title. One of the levels where Sheldon wanted you to use a Bucket, the platforms were invisible and the only way I could get through it was to ink a path through it. Has anyone else had this happen to them, or is it just a bizarre bug that has accidentally created something awesome?
