Best build for darklurker/ivory king

So I haven't ever managed to beat the darklurker and on my last run I stopped/gave up before finishing the ivory King dlc. I've beaten ds3 a few times (including dlc) and I'm planning on finishing off sotfs and then doing DS1 (never done the dlc) after.

Part of the reason I wasn't able to beat darklurker was I was a short ranged melee build (I'm sure it's still possible). If I'm starting from scratch and going to do all the dlc, what's a good build to go?
