At my wit's end with debt
I recently was denied refinancing from CitizenOne on my Sallie Mae private loan and in my letter I was told that my DTI was too high. I ended up calculating it to 76%. Is there a way to artificially lower it by doing something like splitting rent? And follow up question, how can I realistically improve my DTI to climb my way out of debt? My figure is based on utilities included in rent, should I not include them?
My monthly grossed income is 3300.
My monthly bills: Rent: 1200 Student loan: 1060 (Balance 86,400 @ 11.25%) Credit card: 116 (Balance 4000)
In the next two years my income will go to roughly: 3330 & 5860.
I considered liquidating my 401k (18000, after tax 11500) from a previous company and using what I had left after taxes to lower the balance on my SL but I'm not sure that would really help anything. I also have 11,000 left over from a bonus I received from my current job.
I started driving for Uber and Lyft as well as working my primary job.
I considered bankruptcy, but my wife is my cosigner on the loan.
I'm paying my bills on time, and the refinance would of had me paying 717. I'm feeling at my wit's end trying to manage this. Is there something I haven't considered?
