Ultimate 2 vs Turbo Chameleon 64?
I'm really looking forward to renewed availability of the Turbo Chameleon 64. I recently watched a review of the Ultimate II and now I'm on the fence. They both seem like excellent pieces of hardware. The two things that the Turbo Chameleon 64 has in its favor are VGA out and CPU acceleration.
I've always wanted an accelerated C64 ever since the Super CPU came out, but I could not afford it at the time. That said, other than casual GEOS use, I can't imagine the accelerated mode will see much use. VGA out is kind of a mixed blessing: I get a cleaner video signal but presumably at the cost of some artifacts like tearing due to refresh rate differences between NTSC and VGA. That said, I do thing VGA out is a killer feature, so that by itself might convince me to get a Turbo Chameleon 64. In any case, both will be better than the SD2IEC I currently use. When I get a VIC 20 up and running, I'll use the SD2IEC for it instead.
Given the choice between the Ultimate 2 and Turbo Chameleon 64 which would (or did) you chose and why?
My primary use cases are games and time spent figuring out how bits of someone else's code actually works. Occasionally, I'll wax even more nostalgic and spin up GEOS. I wrote a lot of homework assignments in geoWrite back in the day.
