Layered Hair Woes

Hiya! I love having some layers to my hair to give my chubby face a nice shape, but it is impossible to do fun styles (braids, buns, ETC) without it lookin crazy. Any tips or tricks? I'd love to do space buns but I just cant Make it look right.
