What were some of the largest contributing factors that led to the Great Fire of London (1666)? Could the scope and size of the fire have been reduced if Sir Thomas Bloodworth had not hesitated to demolish homes?
Also, why were there so few recorded deaths from the fire? Some of the official reports from that era had put the fatalities in the single digits.
"According to Samuel Pepys' record of the events, he expressed a lack of concern that the fire would become dangerous, saying that 'a woman might piss it out,' before returning to his home and going back to sleep. Over the next three days, the fire destroyed more than 75 percent of the city." (Regarding Sir Thomas Bloodworth's initial reaction to the fire)
