One way rental car options and opinions

In November my wife and I are traveling to Iceland. Because we are only going to be on the ground for 7 days and the weather in November is unpredictable we are not going to attempt the Ring road. We are going to take our time and drive from KEF to Akureyri stopping a few nights along the way in various small towns and cabins all along the west coast. Then we will fly from AEY-RKV and spend 2 nights in the city before our flight home from KEF.

My question is renting a one way car, I don't mind paying the one way rental fee but it seems the only companies that even allow a one-way are Budget/Avis, Thrifty, and Hertz. The horrible reviews of those companies have be a bit apprehensive about using them. I rent 20 cars a year here in the states for work and have never even considered doing a pre-rental inspection. But I know in Iceland that's a bad idea. I have full coverage from my credit card so I'm not worried about the financial implication, just the hassle factor.

Has anyone here done a one way rental between KEF and AEY? Who did you rent from and how did it go?
