New vaper with first mod - harsh, hot hits, and little smoke on my new Smoant charon with vanilla settings

I wanted to give vaping a try as I am someone who has always enjoyed smoking cigarettes. I don't do it very often for obvious health reasons, but I've just always enjoy the act of smoking. I thought getting a vape mod (and 0mg nicotine juice so I don't become dependent) might give me something relaxing to do from time to time as I go about my day.

I researched the different mods and tanks and decided on the Smoant Charon mod paired with the Crown 3 tank. I got them in the mail yesterday, charged up the batteries, put in my juice, and gave it a whirl. I've got to say I'm kind of disappointed in the results, but I must be doing something wrong, which is why I am writing this post.

The hits are very harsh and get hot, so much so I can't take a drag for more than a second or two or I will start coughing. The mouthpiece also get very warm/hot quickly, and quite frankly there's not even that much smoke. Basically as much as you'd get if you were outside breathing on a somewhat cold day. There's also a minor burnt taste I pick up from time to time, and this thing is brand new and I've barely used it. There's no way the coil needs to be changed.

When I filled up my tank I pulled out the coil component, dripped some juice on all 3 sides with the cotton exposed, put it back into the tank, and then filled up the tank to a little past the minimum level. I was thinking maybe that was part of the problem, so I put more juice in so now it's probably halfway up the glass to the top. Unfortunately the mod still performs the same.

I've got the standard 0.25ohm coil in that came with the Crown 3. It also came with a 0.50ohm coil but I haven't touched it yet.

I've tried at 70W, 80W, and 90W, with each increment seemingly just getting hotter, and not any better/tolerable of a drag.

What I was expecting was to be able to take nice 3+ second cool/warm drags, exhale a good amount of vapor, and basically simulate the sensation of smoking a cigarette. These drags I am taking now is almost as bad as trying to inhale cigar smoke.

I know there is supposedly some sort of temperature control mode, is that something I should give a try to? Is there just a break in period where shitty drags is part of the deal until it gets going? I'm kind of at a loss.

Can anyone recommend some settings I should try with my Charon to try and improve the performance?

Thanks for the help!
