Touchpad stops working after a couple seconds

Howdy folks!

So I've gotten around to install Linux Mint on my laptop. The only problem I'm facing so far is that the touchpad stops working after a couple seconds when the desktop environment opens. In the login screen it works A1. I do use a USB mouse, and even when it's disconnected, the touchpad stops working with the same behaviour.

Acer Aspire E5-523

When running xinput list

ELAN0501:00 04F3:3019 Touchpad id=11 [slave pointer (2)]

It is detected, it just stops working after a couple seconds. Thoughts?
