Usb flashdrive not being recognised during live boot session

Hello there,this is my first time posting on this subreddit,and also my first time using a Linux distribution, so I successfully downloaded elementary OS and transferred it successfully to a USB drive, everything seems to be working great besides the fact that ,when I'm in the live session my other USB flash drive don't seem to show up!, I have some data to backup and my other OS ( a banged up windows 7) is down the crapper,so I read somewhere that I can use a live boot a Linux distribution and save my files from there ,but my flash drives don't seem to show up during the live boot session (I'm not installing it, I'm just trying it ) so please help!. Thank you.
