What do you do when you and your target are in an endless loop trying to get behind one another and both failing?

AB Air

I hate this. I feel trapped. I have no answer, because I feel like my only options are to:

  • Keep holding back on the stick forever hoping that the enemy is dumb enough to run or my ally comes to attack him

  • Do literally anything else other than looping with him, in which case I am offering him my rear, which he will gladly and immediately take, and AT BEST I'm diving/running with tracers flying around me, hoping he can't aim and gets no lucky crits

When flying a high performance climbing fighter, against another similar fighter, this happens ALL the time. I start shooting at an agile enemy with a good climb stat, and he responds by simply holding the stick back and trying to get behind me vertically. If I'm in a good climber as well (bf109) then we stalemate and sit there looping like idiots forever, with a brief point where we head-on but (if we are evenly matched) no actual shot opportunity. Other times, the enemy will get a BRIEF shot opportunity which he doesn't take advantage of.

So I hate this SO MUCH because I feel trapped. It feels worse than a constant turn fight, because I think that turn fighting gives you more options. Vertical turn fighting is just hit the gas and hold the stick back and pray for a change in circumstances.

I shit you not: I have had enemy players loop with me for 5+ minutes in a row. It literally ruins games.

I am asking the hivemind here for some kind of answer to this besides lubing up my behind and offering it to him. I hate that "solution" because it (1) kills my altitude, and even if I do it right (2) gives the enemy the chance to spray and pray his whole ammo load at me at long range, which often results in damage and sometimes results in crits that effectively end me, and all I get for this garbage trade-off is that I get to play again after 1+ minutes of being a target.

As far as "don't get into this situation to begin with" answers, uhh no. I was just in a bf109, came in behind a JAP fighter, the fat little cigar one that is an outstanding climber. The MOMENT he saw my tracer, he pulled up and I was too close and lacked the stats to be able to lead his climb and kill him, so we started the endless loop until the game ended.
