Cardistry Touch - Origin

Let's talk Origins...

The cards are finally getting into everyone's hands. And as more and more people try them, we can now get a feel of these babies ourselves rather than envying those those who had the opportunity to touch them (pun intended).

Being in Eastern Canada, I just got mine yesderday. And already I can tell I like them very much. Here is my review. Feel free to contribute.

STOCK and FINISH

The stock is amazingly soft. The stock feels softer than my one-year old ss16 Virtuoso deck. To say this deck feels already broken-in is an understatement.

The finish is indeed a bit less slippery than a brand new deck. But it is still slippery enough for the cards to drop if you are not careful.

Put these two qualities together and you get a deck that fans amazing out-of-the-box and beyond. When I open a new deck, it generally fans great immediately until I start to spring it and break it in. Then it won't fan evenly until broken-in enough. Not the case with the Origins. Spring them, faro them, spread them, and they still fan great. They do feel broken-in!

CUT and REGISTER

The cut is uniform and on-point. It feels nice, regular, and perfect. Faros are great out of the box.

The registering is amazing. Faro cards with a half turned 180 degrees and the blue line on the side of the face is still aligned. On the back of the cards, the white border is even on all 4 sides.

So, front and back perfectly registered, and cut is very well aligned. Good job, Cartamundi!

DESIGN and COLORS

The colors are bit darker than I expected from web photos. They are still vibrant, and I like them a lot.

The choice of 51 cards works well. This is not significant enough to have an impact on packet-cutting and most flourishes, but it does work well on faros. I got so used at pushing back that extra card in Friffle, it also feels odd to not have that operation to perform anymore.

BOX

The Box threw me off at first. The swivel box is very cool. The cardboard seems quite sturdy and durable, with a double cardboard layer on the front and back. However it makes also the box thicker, which won't fit in my porper clip.

I am carrying two decks in my bag at all times. I use porper clips to keep the cards flat and protect the boxes. So, not being able to put this deck in a porper makes me a bit wary on the long term. We'll see with time if the box survives it. By the "already broken-in" feel of the cards, they might not need flatting as much as other cards using a clip. Another thing I look forward to see with time if it has an impact or not.

OVERALL

The deck is so great, I am sorry to have bought only 2. But with the success this deck had so far, we are sure to see more designs from Touch, and this is an opportunity I won't miss.
