(Xbox) Loot Allocation

Hey hey exiles! Im looking for some information on whether there is a visual cue to something that tells what loot is for who? Or can you just not pick it up? Either way I'm not sure its working at all right now. Set to free for all, temporary, or permanent me and my friend could pick up anything that dropped without restrictions.
