Comments on my itinerary? 14 Days in Japan (Tokyo - Hakone - Kyoto - Kanazawa - Shirakawa-go - Takayam - Tokyo)
Hey everyone.
My SO and I are headed to Japan for the first two weeks of October. Everything is already booked, so I guess at this point I am looking for some insight into whether or not we are doing too much already, so we can plan day trips out accordingly (if at all). Specifically, wondering if day trips to Nikko, Himeji, Osaka, and Nara are worth it given that we don't want to be spending our entire trip on a train. Depending on the day trips we take, we are planning on getting the 14 day JR Pass, it was only about 20 bucks more expensive than the 7 day pass when I plotted out all of the train rides we would be doing if we did everything below.
Day 1: Land in Narita (Staying in Shinjuku area)
Day 2: Tokyo (wherever)
Day 3: Tokyo (wherever)
Day 4: Tokyo (Day trip to Nikko? Probably will skip this in favor of another day in Tokyo)
Day 5: Hakone - Take romance car to Hakone / Gora in the morning, spend the day/night there (Ryokan Onsen near Gora)
Day 6: Kyoto (using AirBnB all 4 nights)
Day 7: Kyoto (wherever)
Day 8: Kyoto (Day trip to Himeji then to Osaka for dinner/fun, head back to Kyoto for the night)
Day 9: Kyoto (Day trip to Nara)
Day 10: Kanazawa, staying in hotel
Day 11: Shirakawa-go, sounds like you only really need a couple of hours in the town to enjoy it all, so we are going to spend most of the day in Kanazawa and then stay in one of the gassho-zukuri farmhouses in Shirakawa-go, getting there in time for the dinner cutoff.
Day 12: Takayama early in the morning, stay in AirBnB.
Day 13: Head back to Tokyo for the day/night.
Day 14: Leave for home.
