Recommendations for days/times to see the costumes?

Hi, I am going to be visiting the Peachtree center area during labor day weekend. Other than the parade, are there some times that are better than others to be able to wander around the hotel and surrounding areas to see all the costumes? Or is it pretty much always hopping?
