Looking for Video Card Upgrade Advice!

So I am in the market for a new video card. I game primarily on a 24 inch 1080p 144hz monitor. My big question is would it be overkill to go with a 1080 or would a 1070 be sufficient? I just want to get the best bang for my buck and also see noticeable gains from my 980 that is starting to show its age a bit. My system specs are below if that is helpful.
