Narcissists (not sociopaths): how have you managed long term relationships? Do you stay faithful?

Dumb Title

Narcissists: how long do your relationships (and friendships) usually last? Make a distinction between the two.

Are you faithful in your relationships? Or do you have an 'open' relationship where you can whore around? Are all your partners very attractive? Is anyone here dating someone unattractive?

I've this question to the sociopaths before - but I am asking specifically to those who know they are not 'sociopaths', but are narcissist to whatever degree.

So many places you could have asked this, but you chose the place known for people you don't want to hear from.

The reason I chose to put it on here is because the group in the Reddit Narcissist group is tiny compared to here. And most likely, a narcissist is likely to hang around here rather than over in r/NDP for the reason that they are in denial about who they are, but they also share similar thinking to you sociopathic narcissists.

I tend to hang around here more often than the BPD subreddit (am borderline, not a sociopath), so I can see the logic.

The clusterbpersonality subreddit deserves more quality posts and subscribers, kudos to whoever created it.

Good luck. Narcs are almost impossible to get to agree to be seen or diagnosed.

Oh, I know. But I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm quite narcissistic, but I don't think I have ASPD.

My friendships last as long as I need them to. Usually 3-4 years, but I have some friends that I've known for over 5-6 years, although I don't talk to them often. My relationships last for about a month.

I try to remain faithful in relationships, and if I get bored, I don't cheat, instead I just get out of the relationship. I date people I find attractive, and would never date anyone unattractive unless they're really rich with an amazing personality.

Do you think you'll reach age +45 and still be happy without a life partner?

By the way, you're superior for not cheating. Kudos. Cheating is for the weak-minded.

I don't know. Right now, if I continue like this, I think I would. But I know that I would change a lot in 20+ years, so maybe not? I like to see myself with a family in the future though (a remnant from my upbringing).

Thanks. I don't think cheating is fair to anyone in the relationship. :)

I don't think a narcissist could really do well in a family though, since raising a family would require a lot of sacrifice and always putting their needs above your own. You would be severely unhappy in a family, don't you think?

Could you put your girlfriend's needs above your own? Your relationships only last one month - why is that? What's happening that prevents them from going further?

Yes, I'd be pretty unhappy. But maybe one day, in the future, I might be willing to compromise some of my happiness to spread my genes.

I don't know, honestly. In past relationships, I'm only able to think about my partner's needs if it benefits me as well. My relationships last one month because I get bored, and I lack commitment. What's happening is that I haven't found a person that has been entertaining for more than a month or two. Another problem is that I find it hard to relate to some people. The longest relationship, he was a very nice person, nice job, financially stable, but it ended in 3 months because it was difficult for me to relate to him so I felt really fake in the relationship. Nice guy though, sad it didn't work out.

For me personally it is very difficult. As in I get really bored and if you can no longer be useful or entertaining to me it's done. I end up blocking most girls within a few weeks of talking to them, if you can't do anything for me, and/or are irritating in any way... block. I only want somebody that has something to offer. Like the dude above, I don't really cheat, I'll just end it if it's boring.

Guys are dudes. Girls are dudes. I'll even call my coffee maker "dude." Everyone and everything is dude. Get over it, u/Aleksandra1128, aka "dude".

I'd say I'm on the sociopathy spectrum somewhere, but I can easily call myself a narcissist.

My romantic relationships usually don't last very long. As soon as I get bored of them or as soon as they start pissing me off, I leave. So, my average relationship probably lasts 2-3 months? That's assuming it's just someone I'm dating to pass the time or for social status. On the rare occasion where it's for more than that, the relationship is longer. My friendships usually last very long, actually. I get close to very, very few people, and I don't get into a lot of fights. Am I an asshole to my friends? Yes: but subtly. Therefore there's rarely fights. So unless something happens causing us to not see each other often, we stay friends. I'm honestly not a faithful person, like, at all. In my relationships, I constantly flirt with others and whore around a little bit, but I keep it on the low down: My partners never find out. For friendships, I'm again, not faithful. I constantly tell people's secrets, gossip, etc etc. Sometimes my partners are attractive, sometimes they're just average. Surprisingly, I don't care an awful lot about appearance. Whoever interests me interests me. I wouldn't date a butt ugly guy tho.
