Strange, yes. But I think it looks cool. Makes it look like a horn.

Yeah I guess it does. Now I like it.

Looks pretty normal to me and it's solid block meerschaum.

Trust this guy. He knows Meerschaum.

he does. but I still miss u/flatticus (he mods r/meerschaum)

haven't heard from him in 2 years, he's the rain man of pipes, he's like a pipe encyclopedia. Just don't disagree with him.

2
facestabOP$•

He was something else. A character that all-though often difficult I miss his autisitic powers.

givemeyours0ul•

I believe you. How can you know this without seeing it in person?

2

Can tell from the photo it's block by the coloring, the size and quality of the pipe are also factors, very few full sized pipes are made from pressed meerschaum, some of the little souvenir pipes are but that's about it.

I've read that's normal, for the heel to color first.

3

I would expect that. The thing that I can't figure is why the hard line is forming. The thickness of the pipes tapers linearly and there is nothing to explain why the coloring starts where it does.

Here's one of mine doing the same thing... Imgur

2

yours has a nice buttery tone to it.

Secret waxing technique, also used yellow (natural) beeswax rather than white (bleached) wax.

2
givemeyours0ul•

Maybe this is made of two pieces bonded together with the slurry they make pressed meers from? Maybe the bowl is pressed? It is a bit odd now that I look at it.

1
facestabOP$•

It is supposed to be block but your theories are persuasive.

1
carnesyHunter of the Purple Unicorn•

Or since it's a sedimentary material it could be a hard line from two larger layers came together, as opposed to u/givemeyours0ul's theory.

That looks cool as hell, who makes it? I love it's shape!

I bought a few years ago when smokingpipes.com had a closeout sale on IMP pipes.

1
BriarBoyLife's too short for pipes that gurgle•

Was going to say it looks like an IMP, he only uses block meerschaum.

2
facestabOP$•

I bought two of his pipes when smokingpipes did their closeout. I couldn't be happier, they were both thick and gleaming pure white and despite being a horn shape this one smokes well.

I love it! Meer coloring is a fun process. You never know what it’s going to do and each meer coloring is unique and tells a story. Enjoy it!

I got it from massdrop -- It was a random purchase -- but apparently zippo has a skull series.

Pipes have a mind of their own and a stubborn will. You just gotta let it do what its gonna do. Nothing that a well made pipe does is wrong.

I like that. This reminds me that I need to smoke my meer more.
